Walking

If you want to scale the heights or prefer a gentle stroll through fields and footpaths then the Yorkshire Dales has the lot. The surrounding dales (Wensleydale http://www.wensleydale.org/  , Coverdale , Swaledale http://www.swaledale.net/  , Wharfedale) are full of dramatic scenery from moorland up on the fell tops down to rich pastures, rivers, streams, waterfalls and woodland. There are plenty of walking books in the cottage (with comments on some of the walks attached) and a few websites if you want to try some out for yourself http://www.daleswalks.co.uk/

Flyfishing

The Dales are full of places to go fishing (be warned the fish are cunning!) If you're a beginner needing tuition, or an experienced angler looking for fishing spots, licences etc, a good website to visit is http://www.yorkshire-dales-flyfishing.com

If mountain biking is your sport the Dales has a network of over 500 miles of bridleways, byways, green lanes etc. The following website may help you when choosing routes. http://www.mtbthedales.org.uk
